[Washington 6th Reuters]-Former CEO Howard Schulz of Starbucks, a major US coffee chain, announced that he will give up running for the US Presidential election in 2020.
Although Schulz is a Democratic supporter, he was considering running as an independent candidate because the party has recently been overly inclined to the left.
In a statement posted on the website, he explains that he wants to avoid the risk of losing votes from moderate Democratic candidates by running himself. “The belief that we need to reform the two-party system in the United States has not been shaken, but we have concluded that facing the presidential election as an independent candidate is not the best way I can contribute to the United States.” Stated.
There was widespread concern among Democrats that if Schultz ran as an independent candidate, the Democratic candidate's vote would be broken and could open the way for President Trump's re-election.
