[Johannesburg 6th Reuters]-Former President Robert Mugabe died in Zimbabwe for 37 years and resigned in 2017 after the military uprising. I was 95 years old.

A source told Reuters that Mugabe died in Singapore, where he was often treated.

President Munangagwa said on the official Twitter, “Along with deep sorrow, we announce the death of former President Mugabe, the founding father of Zimbabwe”.

Mugabe led Zimbabwe independence in 1980 and was praised as a hero of African liberation. After that, however, he was criticized as a dictator who sent assassination units to cling to power, manipulated the elections, and disrupted the economy.

In November 2017, he was forced to resign after the uprising of the army.

President Munangagwa revealed in November last year that Mugabe was admitted to a hospital in Singapore and was unable to walk.

Officials have so far denied private media reports that Mugabe is being treated for cataract and suffering from prostate cancer.
