(CNN) - The sister of Kawhi Leonard, star of the Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA, is one of the two women charged in connection with an assault that left the death of an 84-year-old woman, according to a report.
On August 31, authorities found Afaf Anis Assad unconscious in the bathroom of a California casino, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a press release. Investigators determined that she "may have been the victim of an assault."
Assad was taken to a hospital near the Pechanga Resort Casino where she died from her wounded days, said the sheriff's department.

"We are absolutely sad about this incident and we pray for the victim and his family," said the president of the Pechanga Development Corporation, Jared Munoa.
Kimesha Williams, 35, and Candace Townsel, 39, were arrested and charged with robbery and murder "because of their involvement in Assad's death," the department said.
"The suspects were quickly identified through surveillance images and the information was immediately provided to the local police," Munoa said. "We take pride in putting the safety of our guests and team members first and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice."
Williams' aunt, Denise Woodard, confirmed to The Press-Enterprise the suspect's connection to the NBA star, speaking through a window in the Williams family's home in Moreno Valley.
CNN has not been able to independently confirm the relationship between Williams and Leonard.
Earlier this year, Leonard helped lead the Toronto Raptors to the NBA Finals, and the team took home their first championship. Leonard was named MVP of the Finals for the second time in his basketball career.

Williams will appear in court on September 19, jail records show.
