Head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said that Iran is ready to defend its security and interests in the Gulf, pointing out that the presence of foreign powers is a major challenge to the security of this region.
"History testifies to the fact that we have not started any aggression or war, but we will firmly defend our security and sovereignty if they are attacked," Bagheri said in a speech to professors and students at China's Higher Defense University in Beijing.
Bagheri stressed the need to provide security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman to secure energy exports to the world, noting that this security is undertaken only by the countries of the region.
He also described the Assistant Chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission (Xu Qiliang) during his meeting with Major General Bagheri relations with Iran as a strategy, expressing his country's readiness to develop.
"Iran and China have broad and deep traditional relations based on strong pillars," Xu said, stressing that Chinese military forces attach great importance to developing friendly cooperation with Iranian military forces.
Bagheri arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for talks with senior Chinese political and military officials on military cooperation between the two countries.
