The Permanent Council of the OAS decided to activate the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR) in Venezuela. For that, a meeting is prepared in the second half of September. This measure does not represent an immediate activation of an armed intervention in the South American country. Colombia, for its part, denounced the government of Nicolás Maduro for sponsoring and protecting Colombian armed groups in Venezuelan territory.
