(CNN) - Vatican prosecutors requested the accusation of two priests, one of them on charges of sexual abuse, for incidents allegedly occurring within the Vatican walls, the Holy See announced in a statement Tuesday.
According to the statement, prosecutors have requested “the accusation of Don Gabriele Martinelli, for charges of sexual abuse that would have taken place in the pre-seminar of Pius X in the years before 2012, and of Don Enrico Radice, rector of the pre seminar at the time of the events, accused of helping and instigating ”.
The P-X pre-seminar houses middle and high school teenagers who serve Mass in St. Peter's Basilica and attend a Catholic school in Rome, while considering the possibility of running for a seminar when they are older. It is run by the Diocese of Como, Italy, but is located within the Vatican.
According to the Vatican, investigations began in November 2017 after reports published by the press.
