The cultivation of the cotton crop in Syria has begun to recover gradually after the huge losses caused by terrorism to reach the cultivated areas this year about 33 thousand hectares.

Al-Raqqa governorate had the largest area of ​​seventeen thousand five hundred hectares, followed by Deir Ezzor Governorate with ten thousand seven hundred hectares, then Al-Hasakah with three thousand and seventy-five hectares, and Aleppo governorate with an area of ​​four thousand hectares.

Engineer Waddah al-Qadi, director of the cotton office, told SANA in Aleppo that the overall condition of the crop is good in terms of vegetative growth and formation of fruit parts, but there is a variation in the stages of growth between farmers' fields due to the difference in the date of planting. The average ranged from 40 to 50 percent.

The judge pointed out that most of the agricultural areas relied on securing water on irrigation systems, wells and rivers, stressing that the weather conditions were suitable for germination and crop growth in terms of temperatures, pointing out that the incidence of insect pests were uneven and used vital enemies to combat them and recorded good and satisfactory results.

The judge estimated the average yield in the current season at about three hundred and fifty kilograms per acre, a good percentage was the result of follow-up from the competent agricultural authorities and farmers for all stages of growth, noting that Aleppo will host the fifty-seventh cotton festival and will see cultural and artistic events and honoring the winners of the first rank By growing cotton in terms of quantity, yield and area.

The Director of the cotton office concluded by referring to the superiority of local varieties of seeds adopted and developed national hands and expertise on all foreign varieties smuggled from outside Syria in terms of increasing yield and low incidence of insect pests and adapt to different environmental areas in Syria.
