Syria is participating with 191 countries in the 59th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and its affiliates, which started on Monday at its headquarters in Geneva and will last until October 9.

More than 1,000 delegates from WIPO Member States are discussing a range of IP-related issues that have become the cornerstone of economic policy in a technology-driven world.

In a speech, the Assistant Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Eng. Refaat Ali Suleiman, head of the Syrian delegation, asserted that Syria should give the issue of intellectual property of all kinds great importance as a cornerstone in the development of the national economy. And economic.

Suleiman pointed to the continuous interest in the young and creative energies by providing support and continuing to hold the Al Basel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention, where he participated in the last session between August 31 and September 6, the past 827 creators with 387 inventions and creativity, mostly from young groups, and WIPO presented two medals to the participants.

He pointed out that Syria's accession to the main group of treaties in the field of intellectual property allowed it to benefit from the advantages of these agreements, expressing the desire to establish Innovation Support and Technology Transfer Centers in collaboration with FAO.

WIPO is the global forum for IP services, policy, cooperation and information and is a 192-member United Nations agency with the mandate to play a leading role in establishing a balanced and effective international IP system that encourages innovation and creativity for all.
