Volkswagen plans to build its new Southeastern Europe plant in Manisa, Turkey near Izmir. After the invasion of Turkish troops in northern Syria, the project could still wobble. Up to 300,000 vehicles could leave the production line in Turkey
According to reports, the new location near Izmir will have an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year. Around 4000 people could be employed there in the future. The start of construction is scheduled for the end of 2020, the start of production for 2022.
The decision for Turkey is already politically controversial. The EU accuses Erdogan of curtailing freedom of expression and freedom of demonstration. VW counters that the country on the Bosporus for years as a candidate for EU accession.
