An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted the Mindanao region of the Philippines and there were no reports of casualties or damage.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake struck about 69 km (43 miles) north and northwest of the General Santos area and that no tsunami was expected after the quake, initially estimated at 6.7.
The Philippine archipelago is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes and volcanoes are active.
