The Northern Irish Protestant DUP has now once again confirmed it officially: It does not want to support the new Brexit agreement in a vote in the British Parliament.
Thus, the deal that has just been negotiated between Brussels and London is bound to fail because British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is likely to need the approval of the DUP in the House of Commons.
Previously, the EU and UK negotiators had agreed to a Brexit agreement. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker almost simultaneously declared this on Twitter.
The agreement was reached just before the beginning of the EU summit in Brussels. As a sticking point in the negotiations, EU diplomats described the future VAT regime for the British province of Northern Ireland. She had rejected the results on Wednesday evening - they have now confirmed once again.
Johnson has a problem with that: he needs the votes of the DUP in the House of Commons to get the deal through.
