(CNN Spanish) - Cuban classical dancer Alicia Alonso died Thursday at 98 years of age, a spokesman for the National Ballet of Cuba confirmed to CNN.
Alonso died in a hospital in Havana and so far, the cause has not been revealed, state newspapers Granma and Cubadebate said.
The president of Cuba, Miguel Día Canel, lamented his death. “It leaves us a huge void, but also an insurmountable legacy. She placed Cuba on the altar of the best of world dance, ”the president wrote on his Twitter account.
