Colombian pleads guilty of selling weapons to ELN from Miami

(CNN Spanish) - A Colombian pleaded guilty this Friday in Miami to illegally sell firearms to the guerrilla of the National Liberation Army (ELN), an organization that has been designated as a terrorist operating in South America.

The man was identified as Francisco Joseph Arcila Ramírez who, according to data provided by the Department of Justice, on August 16, 2018 instructed two more people to illegally buy six firearms in Miami-Dade County on behalf of Arcile.

The weapons were hidden in air compressors and sent to Barranquilla, Colombia.

The weapons acquired were 4 AK 7.62 mm guns and two AK Zastava M92 guns.

In a statement issued by the South Florida district office, they add that on September 5, 2018, Arcila attended a meeting in Colombia where he met with a arms dealer to coordinate the sale.

Asilah faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $ 250,000. The hearing where the sentence will be announced is scheduled for December 19.
