(CNN) - The death toll in violent protests in Chile increased to 18 people, including a child, according to government authorities.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Under Secretary of the Interior Rodrigo Ubilla told reporters that it had been confirmed that three more people died in the last 24 hours. Ubilla said one of the victims was killed after being attacked by Chilean police in Santiago, the other two were killed when an unidentified vehicle rammed a protest in the city of San Pedro de la Paz.
