Official arithmetic indicates that there will be no second round in general elections in Bolivia. According to the provisional global calculation of the Plurinational Electoral Body, there are 99.99% of the minutes recorded. With that number, the Movement to Socialism, by Evo Morales, obtains 47.07% of the votes. And the Community of Carlos Mesa, 36.51%. Bolivia's electoral law states that it does not go to a second round when the first candidate obtains more than 40% of the votes and reaches a difference with the second candidate greater than 10% of the votes counted. Of course, the electoral body has not yet proclaimed any winner. We spoke with Carlos Mesa, current candidate and former president and former vice president of Bolivia, about the denunciations by the Morales Government of an attempted coup d'etat and calling for a mobilization in the country.
