Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arias, on the sidelines of the summit.

During the meeting held yesterday, Minister Ariasa expressed his pride in the relations between Syria and Venezuela and expressed his country's full support to Syria in its fight against terrorism and his total condemnation of foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister praised Syria's achievements under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, expressing his appreciation for Syria's support in confronting the conspiratorial Western plans targeting Venezuela and its legitimate leadership.

For his part, Dr. Miqdad affirmed Syria's support for Venezuela, its leadership and its people in the face of US and Western interventions aimed at undermining Venezuela's sovereignty and independence and its independent political approach led by President Nicolas Maduro.

Dr. Miqdad explained in detail the recent achievements of Syria in re-controlling the Syrian Arab Army over large areas in northeastern Syria after liberating it from terrorist and separatist groups.

The two sides agreed to enhance coordination between the two friendly countries in the field of foreign policy, international organizations and issues of common concern.

Dr. Mekdad also met with Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, where both sides expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Syria and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in providing humanitarian assistance to those in need in Syria and the need to increase efforts to face the increasing humanitarian challenges resulting from the recent developments in the northeast region.

Maurer expressed his great appreciation for the Syrian state's cooperation with the Red Cross, especially with regard to the Sphinx camp, including the special facilities that enabled the Red Cross to provide humanitarian, medical and food assistance there.

Dr. Miqdad expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the International Red Cross, stressing Syria's readiness to continue cooperation and provide more facilities to alleviate the difficulties arising from the practices of armed terrorist groups and their sponsors, which was the main reason for the aggravation of human suffering in those areas.

The 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) opened on Tuesday.
