(CNN) - HBO is now home to "House of the Dragon."
The cable network announced Tuesday that it ordered a prequel to "Game of Thrones" by George RR Martin and Ryan Condal based on Martin's "Fire & Blood" series.
The series takes place 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones" and tells the story of the House of Targaryen, according to HBO.
Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, was an important character in the main series, which ended earlier this year.

Condal will partner with Miguel Sapochnik and share production functions in the new series.
The three will act as executive producers with Vince Gerardis ("Game of Thrones", "Flashforward").
Sapochnik, who has a general agreement on HBO and directed several episodes of "Game of Thrones," will lead the pilot.
"The universe of 'Game of Thrones' is so rich in stories," said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. "We hope to explore the origins of the Targaryen House and the early days of Westeros together with Miguel, Ryan and George."
This series is different from the other prequel that had been in process on HBO with Naomi Watts as the protagonist.
HBO allegedly declined that project.
The project will mark HBO's first official follow-up to "Game of Thrones," which won the best drama series in the Emmy in September.
Condal is best known as the co-creator and producer of "Colony" of USA Network.
