(CNN Spanish) - The Minister of the Interior of Guatemala, Enrique Degenhart, said his country does not expect flights from asylum seekers this week as part of the immigration agreement between Guatemala and the United States.
The immigration agreement with the United States still has pending procedures, Degenhart told a news conference on Wednesday.
On July 26, the United States and Guatemala signed a cooperation agreement on asylum, which commits Guatemala to extend asylum to Salvadoran and Honduran immigrants who request it when they are in transit through the country.
Minister Degenhart also denied the information published by The Washington Post that says that the government of President Donald Trump began sending asylum seekers to Guatemala this week.
