(CNN) - President Donald Trump, a New York native, has now declared himself a resident of Florida, according to court documents.

The president changed his permanent residence to his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, at the end of September, and first lady Melania Trump did the same in October, in forms filed with the Circuit Court of Palm Beach County .

In a series of tweets Thursday night, Trump said he would leave New York because politicians in the Empire State "treated him very badly."

“1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House, is the place I have come to love and I will stay, hopefully, another 5 years while WE DO US. GREAT AGAIN, but my family and I will make Palm Beach, Florida, our permanent residence, ”Trump tweeted.

“I appreciate New York and the people of New York, and I always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in municipal, state and local taxes every year, the political leaders of the United States have treated me very evil. Both the city and the state. Few have been treated worse. I hated having to make this decision, but in the end it will be the best for everyone involved. As president, I will always be there to help New York and the great people of New York. It will always have a special place in my heart! ”He said.

The documents state that the Florida resort is now Trump's "main and predominant home." They list their former address as Trump Tower in New York, and the addresses of their "other places of residence" such as the White House and the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Trump has spent 307 days at one of his properties since taking office, including 239 days at one of his golf clubs, according to a CNN count.

The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, was not sad to see Trump leave.

"Good trip. It's not like @realDonaldTrump had paid taxes here anyway, ”Cuomo tweeted. "It's all yours, Florida."

LOOK: Trump loses appeal that sought to prevent the House from obtaining its citation tax return

The New York Times reported for the first time the change of residence.

The change was mainly for fiscal purposes, a person close to the president told the newspaper. Florida does not collect income tax.

The person close to the president also told the newspaper that Trump was enraged by the Manhattan district attorney’s lawsuit seeking his tax returns. It is not clear how the change of residence would affect the demand.

That lawsuit, which all parties believe could go to the Supreme Court for a confrontation in the election year, has not followed Trump's path so far. In early October, a federal judge dismissed Trump's efforts to prevent his tax returns from being handed over to a New York investigative jury, a decision that a Trump lawyer appealed minutes later.

The appeals court immediately ordered a temporary suspension of the citation. But last week, that appeals court expressed skepticism that Trump could block a subpoena from New York state prosecutors for his tax returns.
