Theresa May has a new job: the resigned in the summer former British head of government will be active in the future as a speaker. The 63-year-old ex-prime minister is overseen by the Washington Speakers Bureau (WSB), which delivers speeches by prominent politicians and entrepreneurs.
The Virginia-based organization published a portrait of May on their website. According to the broadcaster Sky, May could earn tens of thousands of euros if invited to speak regularly. For example, former Finance Minister George Osborne received up to £ 85,000 (just under € 100,000) for appearances.
The responsible British committee, which advises on applications of senior staff, granted the former head of government, who resigned on July 24, approval. The Cabinet Office had no objections to employment, the committee said. The Office supports Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the ministers in their work.
May has confirmed that she will have no contact with the government in her new role and that she has had no ties to the WSB during her tenure.
May had submitted her resignation to the Queen in July, after she could not prevail in the lower house with her negotiated with the EU Brexit deals, successor was Boris Johnson.
The WSB already has May's predecessor Gordon Brown and Tony Blair and numerous other prominent politicians such as the French ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy and former EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso under contract.
