The AFD has failed in the Bundestag again with the attempt to occupy the post of Vice President. Her deputy Paul Viktor Podolay did not receive the necessary number of votes.
By the end of September he had already failed in the first ballot. In the second ballot, the 73-year-old now got only 189 votes in favor of the required 355. 430 MPs voted No, 19 abstained.
These were Podolay's also unsuccessful predecessors
Before Podolay, three other candidates - Albrecht Glaser, Mariana Harder-Kühnel and Gerold Otten - had unsuccessfully applied for the vice presidency post for the AfD. They had each failed three times in the polls. In fact, each faction has a vice presidency post, but it has to get a majority for its candidate. MEPs are free to vote.
The AfD calls the rejection of their candidates as an act of exclusion. The members of the other factions justify their rejection partly with the political attitude and earlier statements of the candidates, partly with their general rejection of the AFD.
