An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted eastern Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran, injuring 65 people.
Akbar Naderi, head of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in the city of Sarab in northeastern Azerbaijan province, Akbar Naderi, said that 65 people had reviewed the medical emergencies of the earthquake at dawn today, adding that about 60 percent of the injuries were due to trauma, disorder, fear and psychological conditions. A number of others were injured as a result of falling stairs.
For his part, head of the emergency organization in the province of East Azerbaijan Farzad Rahmani announced that some houses were damaged in three villages of the city of Miana.
The Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute at the University of Tehran announced that the earthquake that struck at dawn today on the outskirts of the town of Turk, in the city of Miana, East Azerbaijan province, occurred at a depth of two kilometers from the surface of the earth and at the confluence of northern latitudes 47.64 and northern length 37.76 degrees and also included neighboring provinces of Western Azerbaijan Ardebil, Zanjan, Caspian, and Kilan.
