In the northeast of Hong Kong, there is a small island called Ji'ao. There are only more than 50 people living on the island. Most of them are native residents and natives returning from foreign countries. From the past fishing and farming as a living, and now to fish for their own use, Kat O has experienced many changes, but the constant is the island's strong human touch and cultural heritage. The Kat O Story Museum, created by residents, opened in October to present the prosperous years of this island with oral history and exhibitions.

The island residents still retain the original appearance of the village and maintain traditional festival activities. For example, the annual birthday of the year, the five-year pressure and the ten-year-old Anlong Taiping.

Kat O is one of Hong Kong's geological parks with tuff and maroon breccia. In addition, there are many historical cultures worth knowing. The Kat O Story Museum, located in Tin Hau Temple, opened on October 6, 2019, and presented the life of Kat O to the visitors in an oral history and exhibition. By participating in the creation of the Ji'ao Story House, the villagers presented what they saw and heard before the people, and donated many living items to the exhibition hall.

There are two guides in the story hall, one of which is curator Wang Shuirong. Wang Shuirong returned from Australia five years ago and was asked by the village chief to help plan the story. He has lived in Kyrgyzstan for the rest of his life, but still hopes to contribute to the hometown of Kyrgyzstan. Wang Shuirong and another tour guide will be responsible for the guided tours on the opening day, and will also take them to visit different spots on the island if they need it. The story house displays tools used by fishermen to fish in the past, and planted sweet potatoes with terraces. The story house also records the only elementary school on the island, combining fishermen and Hakkas. The pavilion has also exhibited the flower belts hand-woven by the villagers. The flower belts that are gradually lost are the must-have decorations for Hakka women. Different colors and patterns have different meanings.

Mangosteen blows up the destruction of the volunteers to help repair

In 2018, the typhoon mangosteen had a great impact on Kateo. The houses along the coast were hit by the waves. Even the ceiling and the kitchen were instantly taken away, and the electrical wreckage floated on the surface of the sea. One year later, thanks to the help of volunteers, Kat O was restored to its original state. Wang Shuirong’s father’s shipyard was also taken away by huge waves, and home appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators were damaged. He said that "a wind (mangosteen) has a strong vigour." Fortunately, some villagers Yu Ying helped to call volunteers to repair the facilities on the island, and the island was restored to its original condition.

Following the challenges of the typhoon, the residents of Kat O still want to guard their homeland and preserve the original appearance of the village. Residents of Changju Island hope that the public can have more knowledge of this place, and that the descendants who return from the foreign land can find their roots and know the life of their ancestors.
