Cape Town-Sana
The first joint naval exercises for Russia, China and South Africa took place in Cape Town today.
South African naval spokesman Gridling van den Berg told TASS that as the exercises began, the three countries' headquarters worked out a strategy and tactics for joint actions as part of the exercises at sea, adding that the crews would also carry out exercises and physical exercises on the beach, including the engagement.
The second part of the exercise, which will last until the 30th of this month, will begin as ships enter the ocean near the Cape of Good Hope.
Russia is represented in the exercise by a naval group headed by the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, which includes the Viasma and the rescue ship (SP 406), while the frigate Sas Amatola and the South African tanker SAS Drakensberg and the Chinese guided missile frigate (Weifang).
