The Belgian Public Prosecutor's Office, with the support of the Europol Server Police Department, has attacked the mouthpiece of the terrorist militia "Islamic State" (IS). The cyber attack against Amak late last week was a success, said the spokesman Belgian prosecutor, Eric Van Der Sypt, according to the news agency Belga.
Among other things, it was possible to disable some websites, said Van Der Sypt. Already last year there was an attack.
"As far as we know, IS is no longer on the Internet," said Van Der Sypt. With their website, the terrorist militia have managed to "mobilize people to follow her and carry out deadly attacks on behalf of IS," said Europol boss Catherine De Bolle. It involved around a dozen European countries and nine Internet companies. In Spain, a suspect was arrested.
IS has lost its former dominions in Iraq and Syria and is militarily defeated. According to a report by the anti-IS coalition in June, there are still 14,000 to 18,000 IS supporters in the area, including 3,000 foreigners. At the end of October, US military personnel tracked IS leader Abu Bakr Al-Bagdadi in northwestern Syria. There he ignited according to US information, an explosives vest and died.
