2019-11-25T17:08:10.152Z

The promotion of Rainer Wendt to State Secretary in Magdeburg has been canceled. Now comes out: Only recently, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia imposed a disciplinary action against him - because of violation of official duties.

The Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia has the controversial police Commander Rainer Wendt after SPIEGEL information recently cut the pension. The reason: Wendt has injured as a police officer in North Rhine -Westphalia official duties.

A spokesman for the Ministry merely confirmed that a disciplinary case against Wendt had been "completed with a measure" on 31 October 2019. He did not name details.

According to SPIEGEL information Wendt was considered in the proceedings as a retirement officer. As disciplinary measures then only reductions of the pension come into consideration. What sum Wendt has to do without is not known.

Salary Affair 2017

Wendt had retired in February 2017 after a salary scandal. The main reason for the disciplinary procedure was that the 62-year-old had not reported lucrative additional income as head of the German police union (DPolG) to his employer.

At the weekend, a planned promotion Wendt in Saxony-Anhalt triggered a nationwide echo. The head of the German police union (DPolG) was to change at the request of Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff and Interior Minister Holger Stahlknecht (both CDU) as State Secretary to Magdeburg. The Union governs there with Greens and SPD.

After the two coalition partners had announced that they would not agree to an appointment, the staff is off the table. "After discussing the political situation, Mr. Wendt has told me that he renounces his appointment," said Stahlknecht. The minister did not want to give any further details and pointed out that he had made a confident call with Wendt.

Wendt also said that nothing would come of the post in Magdeburg. The decision-making, however, he presented differently. The CDU have withdrawn their offer, Wendt said the "Bild" newspaper. "I would have liked to take over the task, it has been brought to me by the state government." The Union had "bowed down to the Left, the Greens and the Social Democrats". "The command came from the Chancellery."
