Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has ordered the mobilization of army units after receiving information indicating that Colombia and the US Southern Command were preparing for provocative actions on the border with his country.
"I have information that the Colombian authorities and the US Army Southern Command are preparing another provocation on the border between Venezuela and Colombia," Maduro said during a meeting with transport workers on Twitter. "All members of the Bolivian armed forces should be on high alert."
Maduro said the aim of the provocations on the border with his country was to draw attention from protests in Colombia.
Last September, Maduro ordered his country's military to be on high alert to counter Colombian government threats of military aggression against Venezuela and to conduct a military exercise under the banner of peace and sovereignty in the states of Zulia, Tachira, Apure and Amazonas, which borders Venezuela and Colombia.
Venezuela faces US attempts to interfere in its internal affairs and destabilize it by tightening economic and financial sanctions and supporting right-wing forces in order to dominate the capabilities of this oil-rich country.
