Refers to the consistently high usage rate of Moreton Terrace Volleyball Court

The project of the Moreton Terrace Activity Center in Wan Chai caused great controversy. Against the opposition of the Democratic Legislative Council, it was rejected by the Public Works Subcommittee of the Legislative Council in June last year. However, after the government revised the design, it “breaks through” again. Questioned, Liu Jianghua, the director of the Home Affairs Bureau, said at the time that the district council had no objection to the project, and the funding was finally approved with the support of the establishment.

Yang Xueying, who has been opposed to funding, initiated a joint signing agreement with eight District Councillors from Wan Chai and wrote to the Home Affairs Bureau requesting the suspension of the construction of a community hall in Moreton Terrace. They pointed out that the community hall of Moreton Terrace is small in area, and the average price per square foot is calculated, but it is a sky-high project. The existing utilization rate of Moreton Terrace volleyball courts has been high, and that the existing merger and replacement plan has many problems and cannot meet the needs of citizens .

They also pointed out that due to the limitation of land occupation and cost, the design of the hall was smaller than the standard, and ball games could not be performed. They urged the bureau to respond before the start of the new District Council and to suspend the project as soon as possible before the full start of the project, otherwise they would move the district council to suspend the project.

Yang Xueying has always criticized the authorities for disregarding public opinion and arbitrarily dismantling the Moreton Terrace volleyball court. (Profile picture)
