Yuli Riswati, an Indonesian domestic helper who has worked in Hong Kong for ten years, previously contributed to the Indonesian-language media "SUARA" who worked for an Indonesian female journalist who was shot and injured her right eye. He was interviewed by the media and stated his support for the anti-revision movement.

A group named “Yuli Friends Support Team” issued a statement today (1st), claiming that the Immigration Department arrested Yuli in September on the grounds that Yuli Riswati had forgotten to renew her work visa, and later detained her at the Qingshan Bay Immigration Center , Has been detained for 28 days so far, and may be deported in the future. The statement criticized the action as political suppression and said the Immigration Department ignored Yuli's employment contract with her employer and trampled on Yuli's right to work and her employer's right to hire her.

The statement states that Yuli Riswati has been explaining Hong Kong's anti-revision movement to fellow people on his Facebook and "Migran Pos" platforms. However, since her interview with the media, the Immigration Department arrested Yuli on September 23 on the grounds that she had forgotten the renewal of her work visa.

Detained after charges dropped

The statement stated that as early as November 4, the Immigration Court in Shatian Magistrates' Court had dropped her charge of "overdue residence" with "no evidence for prosecution". However, after the charges were dropped, the Immigration Department stated that she had "no family, no reason, no place to live" in Hong Kong and detained her at the Qingshan Bay Immigration Center on the same day.

The statement criticized that since her arrest, Yuli's employer has repeatedly stated in writing to the Immigration Department that she would continue to hire her, and asked to apply for a visa renewal. She was also willing to provide her with food and accommodation in Hong Kong before the visa was approved. The Immigration's explanation was not factual, and it ignored the employer's request and forced her to be detained.

Immigration Department issues deportation order, appeal will be deported

The statement also stated that until November 8, Yuli handled the visa renewal application in the detention center. While waiting for the visa renewal application, the Immigration Department issued a deportation order on November 11. Yuli had appealed the deportation order. Lawyers also repeatedly asked the Immigration Department to issue "street paper" to Yuli, but the Immigration Department refused the lawyer's request and repeatedly delayed responding to the lawyer's questions, and continued to detain Yuli.

The statement stated that she had been detained for 28 days until the Immigration Department notified her appeal of the deportation order on November 28 and she would be deported.

The statement stated that Yuli became ill due to cold, suffered from long-term vomiting and cold, but was delayed from seeing a doctor. On November 29, Immigration officers asked Yuli to sign documents to revoke her visa renewal application, also saying that she would cancel her visa application if she did not want to be detained again. In the end, she confronted the immigration officer for one morning, but she had no choice but to cancel the visa application according to the instructions of the immigration officer.

It is customary for visas to continue to be issued after the visa expires

The statement said that Yuli signed a two-year contract with the current employer, which began early this year. Because Yuli's passport expired in August, the original work visa only lasted until July 27.

Although Yuli forgot to renew the visa, the statement pointed out that, as long as the employment contract is still in effect, the Immigration Department will ask the employer and foreign domestic helper to explain the reason for failing to apply for renewal in time, and then issue the visa. The statement criticized that the Immigration Department used "home arrest" to arrest Yuli this time, using "disproportionate" high-pressure methods, and during the period, she was detained unreasonably, which was obviously political suppression.
