(CNN) - Fourteen people died, including four police officers, in a clash on Saturday between security forces and suspected criminals in the northeast of the Mexican state of Coahuila, according to a state government press release.

The confrontation occurred in the city of Villa Unión, which is about 30 miles from Eagle Pass, Texas.

The confrontation lasted two hours, Governor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís said at a press conference on Saturday.

Solis said that criminal groups have always tried to enter the state en masse and that "we will not allow organized crime to come to the area." Authorities stopped fourteen vehicles with strong weapons.

The images of the state government showed a local government building and a police vehicle riddled with bullet holes.

“Many years ago they entered with impunity. They entered our cities and municipalities and nothing happened. Not today. This was a blunt response, ”said the governor.
