Washington-SANA

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Eleven people were injured, two of them critically, in a shooting incident in a tourist neighborhood in New Orleans, Arizona's largest city last night.

Police officers in New Orleans near the scene reported gunfire and on arrival, they found several people shot, police said, adding that police officers were not injured.

No suspects have been arrested so far, but police said in a tweet that they had arrested someone near the scene of an investigation into possible links to the incident.

The shooting took place at the entrance to the "French Quarter", which is popular with tourists at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, an occasion for fans of American football to gather to follow the derby that brings together the teams "Grambling State University" and "Southern University."

The United States has witnessed occasional shootings as a result of increased violence in American society and the ease of possession of weapons among individuals amid controversy and wide calls to control the process of possession of individual weapons.
