The Palestinian Presidency condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' announcement of a new settlement plan in the West Bank city of Hebron as a continuation of its aggressive policies aimed at Judaizing the city and obliterating its Arab-Islamic identity.
The presidency said in a statement reported by Wafa that the announcement of the occupation to establish a new outpost in the vegetable market in the old city of the city in flagrant violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, stressing that it is a provocative step rejected.
In its statement, the Presidency called on the international community to take urgent action to face the expansionist settlement plans and take effective steps in this regard, reiterating that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to achieve any future settlement of the Palestinian issue.
The Israeli occupation authorities stepped up their attempts to Judaize the city of Hebron, especially the Old City and the vicinity of the Tomb of the Patriarchs, after the announcement of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on November 18 that the US administration does not consider the Israeli settlements contrary to international law, ignoring all international resolutions, especially the Security Council resolution. 2334 of 2016, demanding an immediate halt to all settlement activity in the OPT.
