LONDON (Reuters) - Two British military planes' penetration of the sound barrier north of London on Tuesday sparked panic among people.
"A loud explosion caused by two Typhoon fighter jets of the RAF Typhoon that broke off from a military base north of London in response to a report of a malfunction in another aircraft," the BBC quoted police as saying.
Local residents posted tweets on social media about the incident and police and emergency services received reports about it. Residents of north London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire said the sound shook homes and was followed by sirens.
