Carmen Castillo, who recently starred in a documentary for America Re-Framed, spoke with CNN in Spanish about her work as a councilor for the community of Providence, Rhode Island. Castillo arrived in the US in 1994 of the Dominican Republic with his three daughters, without speaking English. Despite the discrimination he says he suffered working in housekeeping in a hotel, he pledged to help minorities and immigrants. Her fight led her to be elected Councilor of Providence in 2011, 2014 and 2018. Castillo told CNN that despite being a councilwoman she proudly cleans the hotels and that for working so much they call her "the runner", the broker.
