Member of the Defense Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, France Klentsevich said today that Russia refuses to interfere in the affairs of Venezuela or other countries, noting that this is a fixed position and will not change.
"Venezuela is the same one that determines the path of its development and the priorities of its foreign policy," he said in a special statement, adding that Russia cooperates with the legally-elected Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and fulfills all its international obligations towards Caracas.
In response to a report by the US Bloomberg Agency on the US administration's plans to adopt more aggressive strategies against Caracas and the possibility of cooperation with Russia with a view to interfering in the internal affairs of Venezuela, Klinsevich stressed that "Russia will not interfere in the internal affairs of Venezuela either by itself or in cooperation with the United States."
Venezuela faces continuous US interference in its internal affairs and attempts to destabilize it by tightening economic and financial sanctions and supporting right-wing forces with the aim of dominating the capabilities of this country rich in oil and wealth.
