British Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to lead his country out of the EU on January 31, 2020. However, the parliament has not yet approved the withdrawal contract. The head of government wants to present the Brexit agreement he negotiated with Brussels next Friday.
"We want to start the process before Christmas," said a spokesman. According to the constitution, this should be done in coordination with the President of Parliament.
The House of Commons must approve the Withdrawal Agreement so that Britain can leave the EU at the end of January, as Johnson has planned. So far, he has lacked parliamentary backing, but since last week's early election, the conservative Tories have had an absolute majority in the lower house. They secured 365 out of 650 seats.
The newly elected parliament meets for the first time on Tuesday. Then the new President of Parliament should also be elected.
