Walla system! NEWSWe mapped the world, discovered all possible continents and sometimes it seems that nothing on our little planet can surprise us anymore. Then you will be surprised: In the last decade no less than 1,375 new species of animals and plants have been found, and according to expert estimates - more than 90 percent of the species that live in the wild have not yet been discovered. In 2019, more than a dozen scientists from the California Academy of Sciences discovered 71 new species, including 17 fish, 15 geckos, 8 plants, 5 spiders, 4 eels, 3 wasps, 2 corals and 2 lizards. All of these and others were found across 5 continents and 3 oceans, in the most remote and deep places man could ever reach.
California Science Academy representative Shannon Bennett said the list of new species this year was "slightly lower" than usual, but "full of tremendous findings." Although 71 is a respectable number, compared to 2018 then 229 new species were found - it is certainly low. Bennett added: "A rich variety of plants and animals is what allows our planet to thrive. The interrelationships of all life systems provide collective resilience to our climate crisis. Each newly discovered species serves as an important reminder of the critical role we play in better understanding and maintaining systems These precious ecologies. "
