The Supreme Committee for Economic Public Sector Reform reviewed the Ministry of Industry's vision to reform the textile industries sector as one of the top priorities for the work of the committee for its important role in reviving production and securing the need for the local market and export.

During the committee’s meeting today, headed by Eng. Imad Khamis, the Prime Minister, the reality of the work of the textile public sector was described, and the difficulties it faces, and the measures that must be taken to move this sector to a better reality commensurate with the requirements of the next stage.

The Ministry of Industry paper presented during the meeting included the policies of the textile public sector reform, ranging from cotton cultivation to ready-to-wear apparel products of all kinds and measures that contribute to increasing production capacities, reducing costs, marketing inventory and raising the competitiveness of the Syrian textile product in local and global markets.

It was pointed out that the General Organization for Textile Industries was able to achieve a profit of 855 million pounds this year in addition to the decrease in stocks as a result of government measures taken to go towards marketed production with high added value.

Discussions focused on rehabilitating and developing existing companies that are continuing their work by updating old production lines, establishing new gins, providing companies with their needs of experienced and efficient cadres, developing company work systems and linking remuneration to production in parallel with activating all businesses that are economically feasible and investing in corporate infrastructure in an optimal manner that ensures Achieving economic feasibility and preserving public ownership and workers' rights and earnings.

It was stressed the need to pay attention to the policies of marketing and internal and external promotion of the products of this important sector and the establishment of industrial complexes specializing in textiles in line with the policy of replacing imports and providing support for exports of textile products and ready-to-wear clothes and the establishment of specialized internal and external exhibitions and the establishment of a clear mechanism for monitoring and evaluation and the establishment of an information system for textile industries And modernizing the legislative environment governing the work of this sector.

On the other hand, the committee mandated the ministries of finance and industry, the Central Agency for Financial Supervision and the Planning and International Cooperation Authority to develop a guide for calculating costs in public economic companies, taking into account the specificity of each company’s work and directions.
