In celebration of the sixty-eighth tree holiday, a plantation campaign was launched in Al-Ghab area, Hama Governorate, to plant an area of ​​225 hectares in forest sites and areas that have been burned during the last period.

The afforestation campaign started at the Merouj Annab site in the 45-hectare jungle area to plant it with various types of forest plantations, with the campaign continuing in other artificial afforestation sites in the region during the coming days with the participation of teams from the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest, the peasant union, extension units, various popular organizations and professional unions And civil society activities.

In statements to a Sana correspondent, Eng. Awfi Wassouf, Director of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest, explained that the Maruj Annab site is one of several other forest sites that are also to be cultivated, which are Shata, Ain Jourin, North Qura Qusha, Aqriba and others that extend over an area of ​​225 hectares, indicating that priority has been given In agriculture, the forest sites that were devoured by fire during previous periods to revive them and prevent encroachments on the country's forest lands.

And Wassouf explained that the authority’s plan for the 2018-2019 season was to produce 300 thousand forest saplings in the Salhab Al-Haraji nursery, part of which is for cultivation in afforestation sites and the other is for sale directly to citizens, while the implementation of the plan for the production of seedlings scheduled for the 2019-2020 season of 500 thousand .

Fayez Mohammed, Director of Natural Resources at the authority, stated that the newly chosen sites will receive service and care, especially watering in summer, to prevent them from being exposed to dressing, explaining that these sites are planned to be planted with various forests with wide leaves such as the oak tree, laurel, sumac, sorghum, and with high leaves such as cypress and pine. Protein, fruit and milky, pointing out that these species are distributed on forest sites according to their suitability for the area at the forest site, whether in terms of soil or height.

A number of participants in the afforestation campaign affirmed their keenness to exert all possible efforts and potentials for its success, restoring the damaged forest sites and compensating them for the forest resources lost during the last period, indicating that the trees in the region are a natural wealth because it is a source of good, beauty and giving bonus However, it represents a popular destination for tourism and vacation.
