Beirut-Sana
Lebanese President General Michel Aoun confirmed his support for the demands of the participants in the popular movement in Lebanon and provide them with the necessary protection, provided that they do not violate the laws.
Aoun said during his meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State David Hill in Beirut today, "The existing popular movements are provided with the necessary protection from preserving freedom of expression without blocking roads and paralyzing the movement of citizens, because that contradicts international laws and norms that guarantee the freedom of others."
Aoun indicated that the demands of the protesters received all the support from him again, inviting them to "dialogue to agree on the necessary reform points," adding, "I am still waiting for response from them."
The Lebanese President stressed that the anti-corruption march that started 3 years ago is continuous and with momentum, and that measures are continuing to punish the perpetrators, especially since the movement has crossed the red lines that were raised by the influential people and beneficiaries of corruption and the control process has become better.
On the other hand, Aoun affirmed Lebanon's commitment to Resolution 1701 once again, asking the United States to put pressure on the Israeli occupation entity to prevent it from continuing its maritime violations.
