Today, the authorities of the Turkish regime arrested a mayor of the Democratic Peoples Party, as part of a campaign targeting the mayors of the People's Party and the Republican People’s Party opposed since the municipal elections in April this year.

The Turkish system, speaking on behalf of the Turkish system, reported that the police arrested Velez Polotkin, mayor of Sur, in Diyarbakir province, southeast Turkey, in addition to two other members of the municipal council, on charges of "promoting terrorism and insulting parliament and the government."

The authorities of the Turkish regime arrested Burak Oguz, the mayor of the Urla region in Izmir, a member of the Republican People's Party, on the pretext of his connection to the organization of the preacher Fathallah Gulen, whom the regime accuses of being behind the coup attempt that took place in July 2016.

In the same context, the Turkish regime authorities issued arrest warrants against 88 people, including forty active duty soldiers and 21 retired soldiers, allegedly related to Gülen, and 52 of them were arrested in raid operations covering 33 provinces.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan's regime has launched a severe crackdown since its attempted coup against its opponents and opponents, as tens of thousands of people have been arrested and sacked in various civil and military institutions in the country.
