Lynn Helena Halfon, a 26-year-old Israeli who recently lives in the United States, is accused of stealing after trying to cash a check in the huge amount after her 77-year-old husband Richard Rappaport, according to a media report in the United States.
Halfon, who married Report a few months ago, aroused the suspicion of the check discounting center staff when she came to cash the $ 1 million check. When asked why she was issuing a check for such an amount, Halfon explained that she wanted to buy a yacht. After being refused, Halfon decided to try her luck again shortly thereafter. She came to the same shift at the same place with three different checks totaling $ 333,000 each.
Staff at the center photographed Halfon's passport and updated the enforcement officials at the event, who contacted Halfon's husband and let him know about the incident. He preferred to let her enjoy the supplier and not to file a complaint against her, but then it became clear that she had managed to cash two checks at the remote branch a few thousand miles from the previous location. She was arrested and now charged with theft of $ 666,000 - the sum of the two checks she managed to deposit into her account.
Currently, her bail is $ 1 million, a sum that apparently does not have Halphone still in custody in Tampa, Florida.
Diana Titus, Rapaport's daughter, told investigators that she believed Halfon committed a scam against her father because of his older age, the New York Post reported. Halfon is also charged with money laundering, organized crime and elderly exploitation.
