Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak has announced that Russia has the potential to complete the "North Nile Stream 2" project by relying on itself in the event that the Swiss company, Alsias, fails to do so.
Novosti quoted Novak as saying in a press statement today: "If the politician is unable to complete the project in the context of submitting to the American sanctions, we have the possibility of completing it depending on our own means," adding: "This will require several additional regulatory work."
Novak expressed his confidence that these actions will be completed within several months, stressing that the "North Stream 2" will start work next year.
The Russian minister's statements came after the "Elias" company, the company specialized in laying gas pipelines and participating in the North Nile Stream 2 project, announced the withdrawal of its ships from the project, after US President Donald Trump signed a law stipulating the imposition of sanctions on foreign contractors participating in the project.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed during a meeting with Russian businessmen yesterday that Russia has a ship specialized in laying pipes that can complete the laying of the pipeline "North Stream 2".
The "North Stream 2" project includes two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which will be supplied from the coast of Russia to Germany through the waters of the Baltic Sea.
