The “Grand Xian Bazaar” started operations in 2016. Located on Site B of the redevelopment project, a total of 10 merchants who originally sold fresh goods on Jia Xian Street moved in, including wet stalls such as meat stalls, vegetable stalls and seafood stalls.

Users can get queued numbers remotely

In order to promote the market and respond to the My Central retail space that will open in early 2020, the URA launched the "H18" mobile app on December 16. In the program, all kinds of ingredients are used as labels. Users only need to click on the required ingredients, and they can link to relevant merchants, and even order ingredients. In response to the imminent arrival of restaurants, users can also obtain queue numbers remotely on the program, and will inform the waiting situation in the restaurant with a message. In addition, the mobile app also provides an interactive platform for registered users to upload their own recipes. The "Garden Story" section will also introduce the historical evolution of the original market, accompanied by old photos and merchants' sharing, so that the public can better understand Jia Xian Street.

Merchant Transformation Orders via Mobile

Chen Jiabao is the third-generation heir to the dish. His family has been on Jiaxian Street for more than 100 years. He said that the Central District has a wide range of customers, ranging from customers in the district's neighbourhoods and outlying islands to restaurant wholesales. However, since the reconstruction project was launched in 2016, the flow of people on Jiaxian Street has decreased by 20% to 30%. He gradually transformed his business, from ordering by phone to introducing vegetables from other places, and admitted that nearly 90% of his current income came from wholesale.

Ms. Mo operates a frozen meat shop on Garham Street. The shop was founded in the 1930s. From the beginning, it only sold grocery and oil groceries, to now provides a variety of frozen meat ingredients. She has been operating in the area for many years. She also recalled that Jiaxian Street was very lively in the past, "it was full at five o'clock", but the flow of people became sparse after the reconstruction. The store also provides phone orders, but most of them are frequent customers. She hopes to attract more customers through the app or other promotional activities.
