"The Nida Video": inciting, demagogic - and mostly false

Much has been said about MK Alex Kushner's incitement video, in which he claimed that the entire health system was collapsing because of the nurses-examining the purity.

This statement can be attributed to a recent wave of Knesset members from Israel Beitano who sought to create a buffer and debate between the traditionally retained population of the State of Israel and the secular public. Needless to say, most of the public in the State of Israel, even those who do not adhere to a religious lifestyle, maintains the laws of Nida and the purity of the family. This is one of the consensus and commandments found in the consensus, like fasting on Yom Kippur, avoiding eating pork, and more.

But beyond that, the claims made in the video are simply misleading and far from reality. As a certified purity examiner and midwife, I was amazed that a person, elected public, could make such statements without being ashamed.

The purity examiner is a registered nurse or midwife who has also undergone halachic and medical training. Physiological and pathological gynecological-anatomical training of the cervix and possible sources of bleeding. During our professional routine, in addition to our work at a health fund or hospital, we receive women for check-in, not hours and short notice to see if they can be helped and cleansed.

Contrary to Kushner's claim, when we receive women at the health fund, we do so not during normal business hours and at the expense of other patients. All women who receive the service through the HMO are insured by the HMO who pay supplementary insurance. The HMO as an independent economic body has an interest in providing this service, which is appropriate for the population in order to attract patients. Like other services provided to different populations.

In addition, a situation was even described in which women come to a health fund and are treated by ordinary, non-competent nurses on this subject to perform a purity test so that they can maintain their religious lifestyle in the way they seek, which is different from a woman who attends the doctor at sixty. Does Kushnir also claim that the services provided are overloading and causing the health system to collapse? And what about men and women performing plastic surgery on the register to change their appearance - including post-operative psychology treatments? Anyone ever resented it?

Health funds provide services to every public according to their needs, and according to population demand. Kushner's remarks are but a cheap demagoguery that seeks to undermine social cohesion. The women of Israel gave their lives for the purity of the people of Israel throughout the ages, in harsh conditions, in frozen rivers, in restraint and with great courage. They did not think of themselves and acted with great faith and great humility. I wish we had.
