Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Wednesday) announced to the government that as of tonight, he has ceased to serve as minister in the three files he holds - welfare, agriculture and diaspora. Netanyahu has also announced plans to appoint ministers in the coming days.

Netanyahu's resignation will only take effect in 48 hours. It is estimated that the prime minister will approve the appointment of new ministers at the latest on Sunday, including two for Likud and one for Shas.

Last week, Netanyahu resigned from the post of Minister of Health, and was replaced by Deputy Minister Yaakov Litzman, after receiving the approval of Agudat Israel's Torah Council. This approval is required since Torah Judaism was customary not to be appointed to ministerial positions, but Litzman had no choice since he served as deputy minister in a ministerial position under Netanyahu.
