The double Italian-Austrian passport for the South Tyroleans does not appear in the 326-page coalition program of the Oevp Popular Party of Sebastian Kurz and the Greens . The text speaks only generically of "assistance to the victims of Nazism and their descendants in the process of receiving dual citizenship". The previous Kurz government with the ultra-right Fpoe had instead provided dual citizenship for the South Tyroleans, the victims of Nazism and the Austrians residing in the United Kingdom in the event of Brexit.
Popular and Greens reiterate on page 184 of the coalition agreement that "Austria will also be in the future alongside South Tyrol guaranteeing its role of protection". The two parties recall the development of South Tyrolean autonomy which "has become an international example for overcoming conflicts and for the protection of minorities".
"It is a common task of Austria and Italy - reads the document - to guarantee in further agreement with the representatives of the German and Ladin language groups the further development of autonomy".
The coalition program also calls for the reallocation of skills lost by South Tyrol in past years, if in accordance with European law.
