Several Democratic politicians have strongly criticized the decision of President Donald Trump to order an attack that killed Iran's top military leader, Qassim Soleimani, at the international airport in Baghdad (Iraq).
The operation - which runs the risk of exacerbating the already high tension between the United States and Iran, as well as further shaking the balances in the Middle East region, where multiple conflicts occur - was confirmed by the Pentagon on Thursday.
Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president Joe Biden said Trump "threw a dynamite cartridge in a powder magazine." He also said that the operation pushes the United States "on the verge of a large-scale conflict throughout the Middle East."

Along the same lines was the comment of the senator by Vermont Bernie Sanders, also a presidential candidate, who added that "Trump's dangerous escalation brings us closer to another disastrous war in the Middle East that could cost countless lives and billions of dollars more" .
Democrats recognized the threat posed by the murdered Iranian military leader, Qassim Soleimani. The Department of Defense said he killed him because "he was actively developing plans to attack US diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region."
Massachusetts senator and presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren called him "a murderer, responsible for the deaths of thousands [of people], including hundreds of Americans." But he called Trump's decision to kill him as a " reckless movement."
The president of the House of Representatives, also the Democrat Nancy Pelosi, said that "the number one priority of the leaders of the United States is to protect their lives and interests", but added that those lives cannot be at risk "with provocative actions and disproportionate. "
Pelosi also demanded that Congress be urgently informed about this situation and remarked that the attack was carried out without the authorization of the legislative body.
On the other hand, Trump's allies rushed to praise the action . Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted that Iraqis "dance for happiness" because Soleimani, accused of interfering with Iran in that country, "is no longer".
"For the Iranian government: if you want more, you will get more," Republican Senator South Carolina Lindsey Graham tweeted.
Since the attack has occurred, Trump has limited himself to tweeting the image of a US flag.
