The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants today condemned the assassination of the United States, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Organization, considering the crime a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that would increase tension in the region.
The Foreign Ministry affirmed in a statement today that "Lebanon always encourages the primacy of dialogue, restraint and wisdom to solve problems instead of using force and violence in regional and international relations," calling for the region to spare the repercussions of this crime.
A spokesman for the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces announced at dawn today the death of Soleimani and the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Organization, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, as a result of an American missile attack that targeted their car after they left Baghdad Airport.
