Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart, Barham Salih, today that the Iraqi parliament’s vote to remove American forces from the country is an important step that contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region.

And the Iraqi parliament voted earlier today with an absolute majority on a decision committing the Iraqi government to end the foreign presence in the country after the American crimes against military headquarters and high-level Iraqi and friendly military leaders.

Rouhani stressed during the call the necessity of the two countries' resilience to the American hostile measures and Washington's interventions, pointing out that the blood of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization and their comrades, will lead to new developments in the region and to the strengthening of relations between Iran And Iraq.

For his part, the Iraqi president affirmed that the unity and friendship of the Iraqi and Iranian peoples will contribute to enhancing security and stability in the region, pointing out that Iraq and Iran are facing "difficult circumstances and great strife", and he hoped to overcome them.
